Take payments in a vibe-coded app

Most vibe-coded apps get stuck on the same two decisions: who should be the seller of record, and how the app finds out a payment succeeded. Pick the first one using the fee and tax tradeoff below; the second is covered in the checklist.

Which one fits you?

  • Selling one-off digital downloads or templates, and you do not want to handle sales tax or VAT yourself? Look at a merchant of record (Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Paddle, Gumroad, or Stripe Managed Payments).
  • Already comfortable with taxes, or only selling in one place? Plain Stripe has the lowest headline fee.
  • Need a custom flow inside your app (accounts, subscriptions, entitlements)? Use Stripe Checkout plus a webhook, or a merchant-of-record platform with an API.
  • Just want to test the idea this week? Stripe Payment Links or a Gumroad page need almost no code.

Our picks

Common mistakes

Fulfilling the order only on the success page

Stripe says you cannot rely on the checkout landing page for fulfillment because a customer can pay and lose connection before it loads. Fulfill from a webhook.

A framework that changes the webhook body

Stripe requires the raw request body to verify the signature. Any manipulation of the raw body makes verification fail.

Slow webhook handlers

Stripe says to return a 2xx quickly, before any complex logic that might cause a timeout.
